It has been a busy month and I haven’t been able to buckle down and write. Part of it has been a result of projects and work that I’m tackling, and the rest has been me trying to keep up with my work out sessions, which have been kicking my butt. Since the gym reopened this month, I have endeavoured to work out five to six days a week, pushing myself as much as I can. I’ve also been working on my nutrition because I was also constantly starving and since I’m trying not to undo all the work I’m putting in, I’m working on keeping my diet as healthy as possible.
However, last week, the fatigue and soreness got to me so much so, I spent a whole day in and out of sleep recuperating. I pushed myself a little too hard and my body pushed back, something I’m consciously working on; listening to my body and being in tune with myself in every aspect. Sometimes, it might want fries, other times, I’m simply dehydrated and all I need to do is drink my water and keep it moving.
Recently, I celebrated my second year wedding anniversary and believe it or not, I was content with a salad, chicken wings and some green tea. As munched down on a wing, I took a stroll down memory lane, going through the photos. I chuckled as I remembered the explicit instructions I gave my make up artist: “I want my makeup to pop and I want to glow to the heavens”. She was surprised at the fact that I wanted such a bold makeup look but I knew what I wanted, I was sure it would work and it did.
Every time, I look at those photos, I’m glad I stuck to my guns and went for such a bold look. Now don’t get me wrong, I love soft glam looks and I’ve seen brides who look stunning with such looks but more often than not, I’ll always go for something bright and bold. I can’t help how happy and excited such looks make me feel and the levels of confidence, are on another level.
I believe that is the point of makeup; whether you go for an au naturel look or a full-on face beat to the heavens, as long as it makes you feel happy and makes you feel confident, that’s all that matters. Some might say it’s being too extra and to that, I say, life is too short not to be extra and take risks with your make up looks as much as possible.
I have friends and relatives who have seen me in such bright looks, who told me they couldn’t pull them off. To show them how possible it is, I’ve taken plenty of them shopping for makeup that will complement their skin tone and make them feel as good.
Something as simple as finding the right shade of red lipstick with the right undertone can make all the difference. For example, M.A.C Ruby Woo is not only a classic but is also a blue-red lipstick that I find universally flattering on all skin tones.
So as one who has a love for audacious looks, it’s no surprise that I decided to go with this smokey purple look with a ridiculously bright pop in the inner corner. There is something about a vampy bold look that unleashes the inner boss babe in me, not to mention I’m obsessed with this lip colour.
I know most smokey eye looks tend to be for the evening but knowing myself, I would wear this during the day as well.
