How I fill in my eyebrows

If you’re as old as I am, then there’s a good chance you went a little tweezing or threading crazy with your eyebrows. Thin brows were the on trend in majority if not all 90s music videos and because I thought by having thin brows I could dip it low like Christina Milian or hit the high notes of En Vogue or Deborah Cox in their songs, I went in with a razer blade and the rest is history.

Over the years, we have seen the continuously shifting trends when it comes to eyebrows, from the more defined bold arched brow, to the bushy natural thicker brows. We have even some seen wild trends like the squiggle or wavy brow, spiked brow, and even feathered brow, which thank goodness, died, or at least I hope they did.

What I can say is if you’re blessed enough to have naturally thick, full brows, keep them. If you have naturally sparse brows, or like me plucked most of them off, well there is hope for us yet.

Thanks to technology and innovation, we can slap on some brows with the help of the vast number of products available like eyebrow pencils, powders, pomades, gels and even microblading.

Here is how I have been filling in my brows for a couple of years now as I save up to eventually get them microbladed.

Depending on what product you use to fill your eyebrows, you need to make sure your tool gives you as much precision as possible. This will allow you to fill your brows in as clean and neat as possible from the beginning, which means you’ll spend less time cleaning up and your brow.

Suzie Beauty brushes were my first set of makeup brushes when I first got into makeup years ago and I’ve always used the angled brush in the set to fill in my brows. I love how thin the tip of the brush is as it picks a little product and enables me to be as precise as I can when filling in my brows, from outlining my brow and filling it in with light brush strokes.

I’ve used eyebrow pencils in the past found myself to be a bit heavy handed when I use them and after trying out pomades, I’ve come to prefer them over eyebrow pencils. I use the ColorPop Precision Brow Colour pomade in the shade Black n’ Brown.

With the pomade, I find I have better control when lining and filling in my brows. I also end up using a little of the product so one pot lasts me a while. There are quite a number of brands that stock pomades, such as Anastasia Beverly Hills, Elf Cosmetics among others. I got mine from Cocoon Beauty and I love the ColourPop brand because of its affordability.

As with any gel or pomade like products, they tend to dry out over time because of being exposed to the air. I use Duraline, which works great to re-hydrate my pomade, making it easier to move around and pickup and I only need one drop.

It also works as a great, mixing medium when you want to create a liquid product such as eyeliner from most if not all powder products like eye shadow that, intensifying the pigment and best thing is it’s waterproof.
