To anyone interested in dipping their toes in the world of makeup, it can feel a little like being thrown into an ocean to learn how to swim. In an already saturated market, from what eyeshadow palettes to buy, to the colours that go together, not to mention blending, it can quickly get overwhelming, and before you know it, you throw your hands up in surrender.
With makeup, I believe it should not only be fun, but it should also be simple, and once you get the hang of it, you can also experiment with different looks, figure out what you like and what your go-to look is, especially in the event you need to get ready in a rush.
One look, I believe you can never go wrong with ever, and it is my staple go-to is a brown eyeshadow look and a bold red lip, which is also beginner-friendly. You can get it together with as few as three brown eyeshadows: a neutral brown eyeshadow that is as close to your skin tone as possible, a darker chocolate brown eyeshadow to add some depth and dimension to the look, a shimmer shadow to go all over your lid and finally the red lipstick to tie it all together.
Choosing the right red lipstick can sometimes feel like you are playing Russian roulette because of the different undertones. Going for a true blue-based red, I find, is one of the best ways to go, with lipsticks such as M.A.C’s Rubywoo, a tried and tested lipstick that complements most skin tones. Thankfully, there are more options, both low and high end, that one can try out.
I really love this look and paired with the perfect bold red lip, it is like a little black dress: timeless, effortless, chic and can easily go from day to night in my opinion.
As always, I had fun creating this look and love how it turned out. I also promised to try out lashes this year, so I whipped out a pair especially for the photos. Yes, I know they make a difference, and they elevate the look to another level.
